The Syracuse women's soccer team not only lost a game to Boston College on Sunday, it failed to qualify for the Big East tournament for the third straight season. SU fell to the No. 23 Eagles, 2-0. It was the Orange's final Big East game of the season. SU fell behind from the start, as BC's Tara Luciani scored just 5:03 into the game. Kia McNeill scored her eighth goal of the season later in the first half for the Eagles (12-5-0, 7-3-0 Big East). Shannon Myers had three saves for the Orange (8-8-2, 2-7-1). SU gets another tough challenge Wednesday when it finishes its season at No. 9 Princeton at 5 p.m.
The SU rowing team's varsity eight finished 13th and the crew team's varsity eight finished 22nd on Sunday at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston. The crew team finished in 11:34.105. Cambridge University won in 10:43.026. The rowing team's time was unavailable. Next up for the crew team is the Princeton Chase on Oct. 31 in Princeton, N.J. The rowing team heads to Saratoga on Oct. 30 and 31 for the Head of the Fish.
Eight SU swimmers qualified for February's Big East Championships at the Sonny Werblin Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Rutgers. Junior Bobby Schelling won three events and freshman Katie Maaske qualified for the Big East meet in four events. Others qualifying for the Big East meet include Luk Boral, Lisa Wittich, Pat Mugavin, Randi Beaulieu, Vanessa Duenas and Erin Homewood. Next up for the Orange is an Oct. 30 dual meet at Pittsburgh.
The Orange tennis duo of Victoria Vaynberg and Catherine Zawadzki was eliminated from the ITA East Regionals on Saturday in Philadelphia. Vaynberg also fell in the first round of singles competition. The doubles team also fell in the first round. Next weekend, the tennis team competes at the Dartmouth Invitational in its final match of the fall season.
