Staff Reports

Still five months before the season, and the Syracuse football team continues to retool in what has become a busy off-season. Head coach Paul Pasqualoni announced last week a shift in duties for his coaching staff. Steve Dunlap will become the defensive coordinator next season, replacing Chris Rippon, who was appointed assistant head coach and special teams coach. Dunlap will continue to coach the linebacker unit. Chris White has also been named recruiting coordinator, replacing Jerry Azzinaro, who became a defensive coordinator at Duke. White, who has become SU's best recruiter, will retain his duties as tight ends coach. He loses his spot as special teams coach to make more time for his recruiting responsibilities. Also, Pasqualoni will be in charge of final game plan decisions. Syracuse begins spring practice March 26 and plays its annual spring game on April 24 at 1 p.m.

Men's lacrosse Last season was marked with disappointment for the Syracuse men's lacrosse team. So far, the only thing it's shown this year is dominance. Syracuse scored 37 total goals last week in wins against Virginia and Notre Dame. The Orangemen improved to 3-0 with the 18-12 win over the Cavaliers in Charlottesville, Va., and a 19-13 win over the Fighting Irish in the Carrier Dome. Attackman Brian Crockett scored six goals in SU's win at Virginia. SU trailed 5-3 early in the second quarter but then scored four straight goals to take the lead for good. Michael Powell's hat trick moved him into a tie for 15th on SU's all-time goals list and his two assists moved him to sixth on SU's list. Against Notre Dame, goalie Jay Pfeifer notched 15 saves. Crockett scored five goals, Brian Nee scored four and Powell had three goals for the second straight game.

Women's basketball Former SU star Felisha Legette-Jack was named to the Big East Conference's Silver Anniversary Women's Basketball team. Legette-Jack, a 1989 graduate, held the SU scoring record until senior Julie McBride broke it this season. She served as a Syracuse assistant coach from 1993 to 2000, before becoming the head coach at Hofstra.
