Fence built behind AZD halts walkers

As if Syracuse students weren't trapped enough already by the bad weather, now SU has officially decided to box us in altogether - literally. A fence running from behind Alpha Xi Delta forces students to walk around the street when they could once just cross through the sidewalk. This is just annoying. The girls at AZD complained that they need the fence to protect their cars from vandalism… but what do they think they are going to get after they become solely responsible for the extra walk around campus? Puppies and flowers?

New initiative threatens taxes on campus energy use

The program, already established at University of Rochester, seeks to promote moderate energy usage, and could implement fines for students who are "wasteful." Students could be charged for leaving their lights on, letting their computers run overnight, and even water usage. So whip out your candles, SU, and make sure to use only the recommended eight gallons of water for your shower - you might have to pay up otherwise.

Men's soccer falls to 7th in Big East after shutout loss

The Orange men's soccer team dropped to seventh in the Big East Red Division after the 1-0 loss to last-place Cincinnati over the weekend. The Orange is now tied with the Bearcats for last place, and is one spot out of a trip to the conference tournament. Honestly, how bad can it get for SU sports? All the Orange could manage was one shot on goal for the entire game. Aside from field hockey, the fall sports lineup needs a major overhaul. Badminton, anyone?

Russell Brand fired by BBC Radio

The British comedian, known stateside for his role in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," was suspended from his radio show after a crude on-air prank generated nearly 18,000 complaints. Brand, along with BBC TV presenter Jonathan Ross, had left a series of messages on actor Andrew Sachs' answering machine, during which Brand claimed to have slept with Sachs' granddaughter. The BBC formally responded on Wednesday, suspending both Brand and Ross indefinitely. Wow, Russell; that's almost as scummy as your character Aldous Snow! Nice move!

'Joe the Plumber' considering a singing career

Joe Wurzelbacher, the once-anonymous plumber from Ohio who burst into the spotlight during the 2008 presidential campaign, plans to release a country music album by Inauguration Day 2009. Wurzelbacher recently signed with a Nashville-based public relations and management firm that would "create new career opportunities," according to CNN. OK, seriously, enough is enough with this guy.
