Remembrance Scholar: Amy Otuonye

Amy Otuonye, a senior chemistry major, is representing Wendy Lincoln, a Pan Am Flight 103 victim, who specialized in communication design, graphic illustration and photography.

Otuonye said she hopes that by representing Lincoln, she'll keep alive the Remembrance Scholar tradition and ensure Syracuse University's student body remembers the victims of Pan Am.

"It's an honor to be chosen to represent these students who were killed and to be here to pass on their legacy," she said.

Although their majors differ drastically, Otuonye said she believes she and Lincoln share similar personalities. She described Lincoln as a friendly person, who could go anywhere and know someone.

Otuonye said Lincoln exhibited the same characteristics during their times at SU.

Otuonye, who is pursuing a medical career, said she believes Lincoln's respect and selflessness are admirable qualities and are characteristics she looked for in choosing which Pan Am victim to represent.

When Otuonye first came to SU, she said she was unaware of the Pan Am tragedy. Now she and the other scholars are trying to raise awareness on campus.

Otuonye said she has a personal connection to victims of violence. "(Being a part of this) helps me know that I'm doing something to contribute, and to remember those who were victims of violence and whose lives were taken selfishly."
