Syracuse releases pre-spring depth chart

Syracuse released its 2014 pre-spring depth chart Tuesday. The chart does not include injured players.

Highlights:

-Left tackle Sean Hickey is the only returning starter currently practicing in the same position on the line. Center Macky MacPherson graduated, left guard Rob Trudo has taken over at center, right guard Nick Robinson is out with a lower-body injury and right tackle Ivan Foy is suspended due to academics.

-Ashton Broyld is staying at wide receiver and Brisly Estime is the first-team H-back. Broyld bounced back and forth between the two positions last year after seeing time in the backfield as a freshman. Estime gradually saw the field more and more throughout the season before breaking out in the Texas Bowl with a late punt return.

-Freshman Corey Cooper is listed as an H-back. Enrolled early with classmate A.J. Long, the dynamic receiver appears to be the next in line (after Broyld and Estime) to take H-back 100 this semester.



-Defensive tackle Ryan Sloan is practicing with the first team. He’s lining up next to returning starter Eric Crume, and has big shoes to fill with sack leader Jay Bromley graduated.

-Rising sophomore Marqez Hodge is taking over for Marquis Spruill as the starting middle linebacker. He broke out in SU’s blowout loss to Georgia Tech last season, and showed more promise than arguably any other freshman on the defensive side of the ball.
