Syracuse women earn No. 2 seed in NCAA tournament, will play winner of Towson, Stony Brook in 1st round

No. 2 Syracuse (18-2, 6-1 Atlantic Coast) has earned the No. 2 overall seed for the NCAA tournament, and will host the winner of Stony Brook (16-3, 4-1 America East) and Towson (11-7, 4-1 Colonial Athletic) at SU Soccer Stadium on Sunday.

Syracuse defeated then-No. 15 Towson, 12-7, at the Carrier Dome on March 2.

The Orange is coming off its best regular season in program history, having defeated nine ranked opponents. SU then beat two more in ACC tournament play, where it lost in the final to top-ranked Maryland.

In the regular-season finale on Saturday, Syracuse gave up an early five-goal lead and needed a furious last-minute comeback to defeat No. 11 Loyola, 14-12, in overtime.

The Orange is looking to advance to its third-straight final four, having lost in the finals to Northwestern in 2012 and in the semifinals to Maryland last year.

Maryland grabbed the top seed ahead of the Orange, and Duke, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Virginia and Boston College were the other ACC teams to make the field.
