In response to our new chancellor’s email about how we should not be proud that Syracuse is the new one number party school: I personally would like to say you are incredibly wrong, Chancellor.

There is every reason to be proud. I mean no disrespect to Chancellor Syverud, but after seeing the excitement of my fellow Syracuse students Monday of the news that we reached the top the Party School list, I was quite upset by the arrival of his email. The Chancellor is still very new to our community, and I understand as the face of our University he must keep good appearances and disapprove of Syracuse University’s number one rank. However, I cannot believe that this is completely a bad thing.

Just because we party hard does not mean we don’t work hard. We were chosen as the number one school for several reasons. One, we have an amazing hard working group of students in SA that brings fantastic entertainment acts to campus and plans awesome events several times a year which let us relax together and have a good time. We also have an incredibly hard working group of student athletes that train endlessly to make us proud to be Orangemen and to have the strongest school spirit around. Our Greek life gives students a place to make a new family and somehow still find time to give back with the numerous charity events they put on. We have such dedicated students from Arts and Science to Newhouse to the School of Architecture and all the other colleges that make our programs the best in the country.  None of which could be achieved if we as students didn’t work as hard as we do. Of course the administration and faculty is to be commended for their incredibly hard work as well.

Syracuse University is a community of hard working individuals, but what makes us special is that at the end of the week, no matter what program you are in, we all come together and have a really good time as the Orange Community. We truly bleed orange and that’s what makes us love this school.
