Players vote Thomas, Perea team captains for 2014 season

Senior defender Skylar Thomas and senior midfielder Nick Perea have been named captains for the 2014 season, Syracuse head coach Ian McIntyre tweeted on Tuesday night.

McIntyre noted that the captains were voted on by the team and that the trust given to Thomas and Perea by their teammates is “very well deserved.” Both served as co-captains during their junior seasons last year, along with current senior defender Chris Makowski.

Thomas will be starting on the back line for the fourth straight year, as the center back has started all 37 games he’s appeared in throughout his SU career. He’s scored five goals in three years and led a defense that posted eight shutouts during the 2013 season.

Perea has started 52 of his 55 appearances in an Orange uniform and accumulated five goals and three assists in his career. He’ll once again anchor the central midfield for SU in 2014.
