School of Education professor emerita dies Tuesday

A Syracuse University professor emerita in the School of Education has died, the university announced on Thursday.

Sari Knopp Biklen, 68, died Tuesday. Biklen was the wife of former School of Education Dean Doug Biklen. She retired in May 2014 after 38 years of service to SU, according to an SU News release. During her time at the university, she served as department chair of the Cultural Foundations of Education and was the director of the Institute for Popular Culture.

Biklen specialized in popular culture, qualitative research methods, youth culture and women’s studies. Prior to her career at SU, she was a professor at Cazenovia College. She also taught at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School in Syracuse.
