Syracuse University’s Department of Public Safety issued a statement Tuesday night regarding six recent incidents of assault, burglary and robbery near campus.

On Monday, three incidents were reported — an assault near the 100 block of Stratford Street around 4:30 p.m., a robbery around the 400 block of the same street around 10:30 p.m. and a robbery near the 1000 block of Comstock Avenue around 10:10 p.m.

On Friday, there was an assault reported near the 100 block of Stratford Street around 4:30 p.m. On Sunday, there was a burglary reported near the 700 block of Ostrom Avenue around 12:40 a.m. and an assault in the same area reported around 2:00 a.m.

DPS has increased patrol presence in the affected areas and adjacent neighborhoods, according to the email. It is unclear if the incidents are connected.

DPS’s jurisdiction does not cover Stratford Street or the 700 block of Ostrom Avenue except for the WAER office. The 1000 block of Comstock Avenue is on the border of its jurisdiction near South Campus facilities.

In the University Neighborhood area, where many upperclassmen from SU and SUNY ESF reside, DPS jurisdiction does not extend past the 700 block of Comstock and Ostrom Avenues. The only buildings along Euclid Avenue that are covered by DPS jurisdiction are The Daily Orange office, WAER office and Oren Lyons Hall.

DPS recommended that students “be aware of their surroundings and take actions necessary to keep themselves and their property safe.”
