Thank you for considering a donation to The Daily Orange. Your contribution will allow our journalists, designers, photographers and artists to work with and train on the latest in publishing technology, while helping us continue to print one of the best college newspapers in the country -- still completely independent since 1970.

Below is a reprint of a letter recently sent out to alumni of the Daily Orange:

Dear Friend:

I'll always remember, as I'm sure you do, my experience at The Daily Orange. My editors, who would become both mentors and friends, took me in as a young writer and left me as an experienced, confident reporter - and part of an award-winning team. Today we ask you to join that team again, as one of The D.O.'s proud alumni contributors.

When alumni return to Syracuse, they tell me that The D.O. solidified their passion for journalism and launched their careers as writers, designers and photographers. I know they'll be there for me when I join the work force in May, and that future graduates will look to me in the same way. It all makes me proud to be the newest representative of a tradition that has lasted more than 100 years.

Now is your opportunity to become part of the Daily Orange tradition all over again. We're hard at work on a number of expansion and renovation projects, bringing in new technology and improving our facilities so that we can produce an even better paper with an even larger staff. We devoted $20,000 to computers and network upgrades last year, and with your help we'll spend $15,000 on the newest versions of crucial software like Adobe InCopy and InDesign this year. Your tax-deductible donation will help preserve The D.O.'s standard of excellence - and build a lasting network of colleagues and friends - for a new generation of journalists.

In our efforts to improve the D.O., we have been working with SU's Office of Development to acquire names of all editors who worked at the paper since 1940. We are reaching out to you now because we want you to be one of the first people to donate in this campaign. You'll find full instructions for making your contribution on the enclosed donation form. We thank you so much for being a part of The Daily Orange, both yesterday and today.
