Abstract:

Ernie Davis Statue Fakery
JEER: The latest in a long, long string of bad things to come from Syracuse University's football department, the new Ernie Davis statue that was unveiled during "The Express" extravaganza weekend was sporting a little bit of the swoosh....

"INTEGRITY"

Just like the Ernie Davis Statue curiously sporting Nike logos on the shoes, Athletic Director Daryl Gross' & his people had today's game attendance announced to exceed 30,000 when most people there indicate it clearly was half as many.

Dr. Gross represents his superior Chancellor Nancy Cantor.

A large vast majority did not vote for the appointment of a Chancellor.

Many of us have had a belly full of what we have read, heard, learned and come to understand about Nancy Cantor.

I believe a university should stand for integrity -- and its most visible leaders should be held to that standard.

We all know the refrain -- "birds of a feather" .. One phoney hired another.

Pathetic.

"Amen to Integrity"

I read today on the ESPN website that Daryl Gross telephoned their offices to defend himself -- claiming "under his watch the Lacrosse Team won a national championship."

Gross had a well-deserved reputation for self-promotion, outright lying, a**-kissing, and credit-grabbing at USC. This alum has spoken with peer alums on the West Coast and requested they inquire about Daryl Gross. I am satisfied AD Gross must go -- pronto. He is a phoney -- and Chancellor Cantor made this hiring error.

Lacrosse at Syracuse University has a long positive history -- predating Daryl Gross by decades -- to include national championships.

Alums proudly understand this man is on the ropes and damaging SU, every bit as much as Nancy Cantor's attempt to change university colors as well as strategically emphasize institutional funding for endowment to cut out alums participate who might otherwise wield some clout over her. No leader should be left to pack the Board of Trustees with individuals of their own stripe, lest they fall to temptation of self-dealing.

Nancy Cantor and her chosen AD both practice nepotism at SU. Is that reasonable ? Isn't that self-dealing ?

Today, emails -- telephone calls -- short notes -- are circulating about deep & serious concerns that the Chancellor is not sincere about preserving university tradition. We alums invest partly in our memories as well as supporting a future that adapts to needs of students, faculty & community. Clearly Syracuse University athletics is an important part of campus & community life. Syracuse Athletics also provides some of the most instructive lessons for students & adults alike.

This alumnus does not believe the history & conduct of AD Daryl Gross embodies the underlying principles consistent with Syracuse University. This alum & others have taken our Latin motto to heart: "knowledge crowns those who seek her." We have dug into the history of Daryl Gross and find he is NOT FULLY QUALIFIED to hold the office he presently enjoys. His character is questionable.

We alums will continue to publicly speak out and ask for change.

We hold Chancellor Cantor accountable. We alums with influence will ask institutions to re-double their efforts to question her plans & programs before investing in her agenda.
