FB | WIN ONE FOR THE GREGGER: Syracuse stuns Notre Dame in South Bend
Abstract:
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The mob of Syracuse players was finally ready to move the celebration from the field to the locker room. After a glorious stretch of bear hugs, handshakes and high-fives, the horde of white jerseys and orange helmets collectively made its way toward the tunnel on the south end of Notre Dame Stadium. Touchdown Jesus loomed in the distance, just beyond the stands....

Wow. Do/did you go to Syracuse? (I hope not!) What the heck is an "escape goat"? Back to English 101.

Touche.
However, forgetting an apostrophe is slightly different than thinking "scapegoat" is "escape goat."
In related news, that fact that they can pull it together and win when faced with opposition means that the coach was rightfully fired, as his motivational abilities stunk.

So they can win the game if they put their heart into it...
I give them credit for a game well-played and a victory hard-earned, but this is also just highlights the fact that they can win games when they truly want to. Perhaps we'd have won more if they wanted it badder.

OK. No one saw this one coming. Not even the Fighting Irish! They were bushwhacked looking past a doormat during their own mediocre season. That's a big no-no and problematic for coach Charlie Weis (wouldn't want to be him this morning!)
Listening to the game on XM radio, it was just amazing hearing the commentators go nuts, calling our win "Historic." I don't know about that, but it sure was exciting. There is a rub, though.
On a day Rutgers also beat Army (no big deal), not one of the New York TV stations mentioned the Syracuse upset of Notre Dame.
Sunday morning, the Asbury Park Press (Gannett) ran a nice article about the game, within its sports section. The article pointed out the irony of former Notre Dame basketball star Adrian Dantley's son (Quarterback, Cam Dantley) coming back to haunt his father's alma mater by leading SU to the upset victory. The article also made mention of (hopefully) our emerging running back star Antoine Bailey's big day - 126 yards on the ground.
Sadly, most of the article seemed to look at Syracuse as a freak team and heavily apologized for mighty Notre Dame getting beat. There were few kudos for SU's game play, except for Bailey's good day. That was nice - and earned!
Maybe it will take another quality win at Cinci, to create a few believers that Syracuse can win when it works harder and that Coach Robinson may be leaving a decent nucleus of players on the field when he departs. This is important for recruits to see. If they think there is a basis for winning next year, they may still decide to attend and take a chance on whomever the coach may be. That's about the only value that can be taken away from any wins at thi point in a meaningless season.
And, once again, don't think this win makes anyone question the firing of Coach Robinson. Just a matter of too little, too late. Remember, that even a Chaminade (Basketball team) can beat a Georgetown on a good day!

The sad thing about this game was it came against a struggling Notre Dame squad, yet G-Rob said it was his biggest victory since coming to Syracuse. Not only have the Irish not beaten a team with a winning record since last season, but they couldn't run the football against the lowly Orange defense, either.

Finnally someone who is talking sense. This Notre Dame team was just as bad as Syracuse coming in. There is no upset here. Just two teams battling out for whom is least worse. Nothing special. N.D. could not even run the football it was so pathetic to watch. Congrats to CUse fans but the reality is they didnt accomplish anything great. N.D. quarterback looks like a fool thus his team sucks. shameful you people are celebrating this as if he just resurrected the program. Just get Grob outta here and use that one million for well needed scholarships for less fortunate students. geez

Coach Robinson, I feel that he has good coaches now,. Money is not issues, its the team he cares about. God Bless Robinson. These kids love him, and these are kids, not NFL players making big money. number1fan
