FB | HOMECOMING: Syracuse hires alum from New Orleans Saints after 26-day national search
Abstract:
One by one, they walked down the steps of the auditorium at the Iocolano-Petty Football Complex to greet the new Syracuse University football coach. Doug Marrone only recognized a few faces, but as the former Syracuse football players and alumni shook his hand, they didn't care....

I wonder how many alumni or fans saw this coming?
I like the choice of an alumni coach from a winning period in their alma mater's program, as head coach. We have a similar situation with the Basketball team and it has worked out well. Coach B. played with Dave Bing and never was a head coach before being handed the keys when Roy Danforth left for Tulane University.
Doug Marrone, will STILL have his former head coach around the university to advise him. He will also have a ton of the school's best ever former players to show up and motivate the current kids and seal the deal on recruits. Remember how helpful Jim Brown was in helping Coach Schwartzwalder get Ernie Davis? And, then there was Ernie helping recruit Floyd Little. Expect the likes of Art Monk, Joe Morris and Tim Green (among others) doing the same in the future.
For those of us who watch the 'Cuse on Saturdays and the NY Jets on Sunday, there may be some new fans coming our way. Marrone was a popular assistant coach with the Jets and many Jet fans will be interested in seeing just what kind of head coach he will be at Syracuse.
We have to have a little extra patience with this guy. Greg Robinson was nothing to us. He had no connection to Syracuse Football at all. So, we never connected with him. We want to see Marrone do well, because he is one of us. Just like we get mad when Donovan McNabb gets put down in Philly after a bad game, we will be somewhat more portective of Marrone, because we want to show the football world that our guys can be successful when they step up and represent our great sports tradition.
It should be a fun ride back to respectability and then, hopefully, to a position at or close to the top. It will take some time. If we see gradual progress, we should be satisfied.

We hoped he wouldn't break down today because not a lot of times in ones life can you actually accomplish your dream.

This article is amazing. I'm going to spend so much time procrastinating on here. I'm not quite sure if I should be thanking you, or cursing you
