Well, the season has gone pretty much how I predicted. We are fortunate to have a very well planned schedule made up of some national programs not at the top of their games at the moment (e.g. Kansas, Florida, Memphis and Virginia); some middle division teams and a few patsies (Lemoyne, Colgate, Coppin State); and a ladder leading up from the weakest to the better Big East Teams.
Fortunately, our only loss came at the buzzer against Cleveland State. 60 foot shots are acts of God, not hot shooting from the field.
Georgetown presents a real challenge for SU. We played some very uneven games against Cleveland State, South Florida and one or two others. We were great in the first half and sleepwalked in the second half. Fortunately, we reversed that pattern in the Rutgers game. Still, weak halves will not get us wins over the next several games. You can't have lackluster stretches in the dame and beat solid teams like Georgetown, Notre Dame, Pitt or even hardworking Providence.
Hopefully we have gained enough experience and comfort among the various combinations on the floor to play well consistently against these better teams. We'll have to keep these games close for a chance to win.
I expect we'll lose one to three of the next five games, This is usually the time of our seasonal swoon. These are teams that can beat us and they are teams we must beat to get the necessry RPI to get into the NCAA tournament and to get us a good seed. If everyone works hard, we'll emerge as a solid basketball team and win the majority of games versus the media annointed like Connecticum.
We need to play better defense and make those all mportant foul shots as the game rolls on.
