The above was and is absolutely true and not a promotional blogging. Thanks to Lara for writing this to the benefit of thousands, if not millions of video geeks world over.

I joined Vimeo just a month ago having directed there by the most unlikely source, an OpenSource software maverick called Nick the Geek [or Nicko Da Geeko as I have aptly and lovingly nicknamed him following my accolade to him for one of his creations, the brilliant CamStudio (http://camstudio.org/) which saves some 0% of my VaioBoy's processor time by video screen capturing quite a lot of stuff I used to capture in more convoluted ways].

And, I have been in love ever since! It is such a welcoming and encouraging community of film lovers that you instantly feel at home, but I have to warn you that Vimeo is highly addictive, like the worse hard drug that someone desperately fed up with this savagely barbaric planet would be drawn to. Once you have seen the stuff there and virtually met film nutters from far corners of the world and posted a few vids of your own and got, for the first time in your stupid, little insignificant life, a single word of encouragement and a thank you for your creativity, your whole life changes beyond recognition! After that, every piece of music you listen to, every image you see, everything that moves and every dream you day dream has to be made into a video, one way or another, just to post it on Vimeo, to see what your fellow geeks might say! If you want to join Vimeo, and if you are a film nutter like me, forget sleeping for the rest of your life.

It certainly is an infatuation like the first love of your life, for me at least, because I am not very fond of the sites like YouTube, no offense at all to the pioneer of free and democratic video speech on the planet, if not the universe!

Your love with Vimeo is not too different from your first love in many ways: it is similarly a rollercoaster ride. Sometimes a video you took a month to create and took 4 hours to upload gets eaten by the xServeBoys, I believe that power this incredibly and unbelievably fast-loading site, if you are using Safari even on a MicroSHIT Windows [What INsult Does Willy have in Store for today] that is. And then, as with any organisation, community or tribes, there is this highly undemocratic practice of Vimeo staff pinpointing to 'Videos We Love' on the entry point. If a video you uploaded didn't get through the screen test of the Vimeo staff, it is as good as dead, until you take the reigns into your own control and start canvassing for your work and work of the other non-stellar users, which is exactly what I do by creating my own maverick crusader channels.

Even if I haven't convinced you enough, it wouldn't harm you to try the site, but please keep my health warning in mind!

You are welcome to try my maverick channels on Vimeo and see my stupid little videos that not many on the blog like, but as you have already realised, I am just a screw-loose and geriatric, insomniac, chronic, if not manic, depressive, who has no control whatsoever of the little Grey-matter left in the wasted space that used to be my brain:

http://www.vimeo.com/brownpolar or http://www.vimeo.com/happyfamilyspliffs and look at 'BrownPolar Top Hundred' and related albums.

Most of the readers of this would be better of by going just straight to Vimeo home page, because my shite vids are not for the feeble-minded.

Thanks for reading!
