Has it come to this? The fortunes of SU athletics are now to be decided by the charity box rather than at the charity stripe?
Let's get on with the 2008 football season, take our expected lumps and get rid of Coach Robinson, as soon as possible. We need to hire a high profile college football coach, with proven credentials. If AD Gross doesn't see the need to do this and follow through with a winner, he needs to go, too.
Coach Mac turned the SU football program around in the 80's and Coach P maintained the momentum for as long as his mediocre abilities would cary him.
Coach Robinson is our own version of Coach Shay, who was a disaster at Rutgers - the wrong coach, at the wrong time with the wrong offense. See how well a terrific coach like Schiano could do what a Coach Shay couldn't dream of doing? Schiano added excitement to that program with a well coached and gritty team.
SU has too great a football tradition to have to fundraise just to break even with its atheletic programs. We need to start filling the seats to fund the program. To do that, we need to start winning again. We need to be exciting and talked about in national circles, as we once were.
