FB | Running out of time
Abstract:
With a fan base desperate for change and a failing head coach still at the helm, the players of the Syracuse football team are stuck in the middle. They are in limbo between the future and the present, even if they only want to deal with the latter.
Despite his 8-34 record as a head coach and little visible improvement, Greg Robinson continues to run the Orange (1-6, 0-3 Big East)....

Daryl Gross is a fool. Kowalski44 is right and it is what I and others have been saying for awhile - dump Robinson, install an interim coach and see how the team reacts to the change, as you keep your eyes open for the next coach - who might, in fact, end up being the interim coach. The NY Mets found that plan worked for them this past season.
By not doing this, Daryl Gross further weakened his own position as AD. Poor judgment is not the hallmark of a strong athletic director. This is a position that requires some flair and the ability to freewheel. You make decisions and take chances. What you don't do is stick with a staus quo that is not working. The stakes are too high.
When you keep a bad coach around too long you lose more games, demotivate your current players, negatively effect the school's recruiting and - worst of all - you seriously damage the program's national standing. Evidence a recent NY Times article that mentioned that it might be much tougher to get SU football alumnus, Randy Edsall as
Coach, because Connecticut (which has been playing Big Time college football about 10 years) may have already surpassed SU's prestige on the Gridiron.
Gross could have been looked at as having made a mistake hiring Robinson and been excused by taking earlier steps to remedy the situation. Instead, it now looks like Chancellor Canter made the biggest mistake in hiring Gross, a failure as AD.
Now, we have to hope that the University does the right thing and holds Gross accountable for all that has happened and what is expected to happen, next. If the University does not, the fans and the media surely will.

When Robinson gets his just firing , it will take at least 3 years to build a respectable team...much longer if we get a clone of Robinson. If you were highly regarded ,why would you want to play for a rebuilding team ? Get a new AD while we are at it !
