This sure seems like a giant step backwards. Why remove a successful program that is in fact in the process of steping up a level to bring in an unproven team in to a facility that needs improvement. Keep the Swimming and Diving team intact and add hockey if that is a potential positive down the road. Syracuse is certainly able to have both in place. The current swim facility will work and let the swim supporters develop a plan to bring in a new facility. A hockey rink over an aquatics facility? Aside from the cost with seems understated, this is a very questionable call by the Athletic Department. An aquatics facility would be of far greater benefit to the student body and to the community.

Don't forget to budget for a celebrity coach that is only there half the time like the tennis team. What's the next sport to go? Cross country? Track? Methinks Dr. Gross is a big fan of college bowling. Let's break ground for the Kenneth "Buzz" Shaw Bowl-a-Rama.

One million to upgrade and then build later- at what real cost? The swim and dive team did not ask for a new facility. Check out the talented freshmen recruits. The Webster pool did not deter them from choosing SU. There is no earthly reason to eliminate swimming and diving at SU. Daryl Gross's vision is in the stars.

Good for them. Forward thinking and investing in the future. Why put money into a swimming and diving team that is at the bottom of the Big East and into a coaching staff that's seen its better days. Daryl Gross is doing what Jake didn't have the guts to do -- deal with the Dead Weight Walkers.
