Robinson fired after 4 seasons, will coach final 2 games of year
Abstract:
For weeks, Greg Robinson deflected the criticism and the speculation about his job security, remaining defiant even as his fate as Syracuse head coach appeared a foregone conclusion.
That attitude was gone as Robinson slipped into the Iocolano-Petty Football Wing auditorium Sunday afternoon....

The firing was long overdue, but I don't understand keeping him around another two weeks. Either you fire him at the end of the season or you make him leave immediately. Is this suppose to motivate the players to "win the last two for ole' coach?" If so, I don't think it will work and surely won't motivate fans to show up.
Unfortunately, there may need to be more changes made in the Athletic Department. Get me, Dr. Gross?

They should have fired him last year! This football program has been no more than a damn joke for the past 7 years! I hope they hire Randy Edsell from UConn, or someone WITH head coaching experince, to clean up this football program, and get it back to it's prime that it had in the 90's, not to mention get us a winning season for the first time since 2001. Lastly, someone get this program a new coaching staff. Our recruiting sucks!

Turner Gill, made UB a bowl team... imagine what he could do at SU! Also was a Heisman runner up, and won big games.
Mike Locksley, great recruiter, vast offensive knowledge and will bring back the discipline and blue collar work ethic that turned SU into one of the top NFL factories.
Oh and they are both African Americans which would bolster SUs reputation of giving African Americans opportunities when other schools would not. These are deserving candidates and should have an opportunity at a BCS school. Why not one known for Ernie Davis and Jim Brown? It would be great press in a time when we have not gotten a lot and a huge advantage with recruits.

I couldn't agree more w/FINALLY!
The life and death of Div 1 sports now is - like it or not - TV revenue. SU has two sources of this money - FB and BB. Since Jim Boeheim was BB coach, the Rev. Gross had only one responsibility when he was hired. Get a good football coach who could recruit.
In the NFL, players are drafted from a lottery, so the coach has to work with who ever is selected. In college, you can recruit and select whoever you want. So one of the major keys to college success is recruiting. Regardless of your coaching ability.
One of the obvious major failures of the Gross/Robinson era is recruiting. Syracuse is now playing with 2nd and 3rd tier recruits. Nothing against current players, who play 100% to their ability, but when you play against teams like Penn St. and even Notre Dame, Syracuse is non-competitive. Meaning SU has no chance to win the game.
This was a major reason why the Rev. Gross hired Greg Robinson - because of Robinsons supposed ability to recruit.
The Rev. Gross has promised much in his four years at SU. He has failed miserably. If those two sports don't do well, it makes it very difficult for any other sport at SU to succeed. Indeed, during the Rev. Gross, tenure, SU mens football and basketball have actually gone BACKWARD.
Excuses like Title IX and being politically correct make you feel good for a while, but soon no one wants to live in (and pay rent to) a house where the people who pay the mortgage keep crapping in the closet.
Let's kick it up ANOTHER notch! Nancy...are you listening? The failures of the current Athletic Director have directly cost Syracuse University - probably - tens and tens of millions of dollars in TV and conference revenue so far. Recruiting has been set back years at SU. Which further leads to poorer teams = less TV revenue. SU has officially entered the downward athletic death spiral.
And also cancelled one of the most successful SU athletics progams to boot - mens and womens swimming and diving.
IT'S OFFICIAL!
Chancellor Kantor and Daryl Gross have fucked up SU athletics beyond their repair. For too long.
Time to go.

Daryl Gross with his $500,000 salary needs to go too!!! But wait, let's hire Barry L. Wells!!! I mean, come on. He was not qualified to be a SENIOR Vice President, but he did that job for like 10 years. SO...why can't he now be the Head Football Coach??? Why should Syracuse start hiring people who are qualified and trained for the job they are in? Why start now?? HIRE BARRY L. WELLS and let him screw up the football team even more than it is now!!! Or wait, how about Anastasia Urtz? Or Juanita Perez Williams???

As for what Robinson's departure promises SU fans -
The excitement of seeking and locking up a new head coach (hopefully, Randy Edsall) will get the program some positive and intriguing headlines.
There is, at least, a ray of hope to those remembering that there once was another bad SU Coach named Frank Maloney. Maloney was a horrible coach and SU played in an obsolete stadium - Archbold. Doom set in when everyone was talking SU as a future Division III program. Then came Coach Macpherson, some great recruits and the Carrier Dome. The rest is history measured by winning records, great bowl games, top 5 rankings, the tie with Auburn and a new string of terrific players like Monk (I believe a holdover),(Donnie)Mcpherson, Morris, Graves, Mare, Green, D. Johnson, Harrison, McNabb, Freeney and many more.
Recruits will see that SU means business and wants to win. It will take two or three under a good coach and we'll be back in the thick of things.
A winning program may reopen consideration for improved facilities. I'll leave that comment to everyone's imagination.
Did a breath of cold Syracuse winter air just make it to my desk in Central New Jersey? I believe it has. I wish Coach Robinson the best of luck in his future endeavors and hope that new fresh brings with it a restoration of our winning traditions.
