Abstract:
Greg Robinson ran alongside his defense, shepherding them from one end of the field to the other. The third quarter had just ended and Pittsburgh was driving - threatening Syracuse's eight-point lead. So the SU head coach tried to spur his lagging defense, leading the charge as the teams switched sides between quarters....

I tuned into the game midway through the first quarter and thought I was thrust back in time by eight or nine years. Was I dreaming? SU was playing Pitt in a meaningful Big East game and was leading in the contest? Then, I woke up.
It wasn't a dream, at all. I was very much awake. Still, this one was a nightmare. It was September 2008 and not 1999 or 2000. The coach was Robinson (always the loser) and not Pasqualoni (in his winning days).
In 2008, SU is a laughing stock playing meaningless games. We are no longer a respectable program. We lost yet another game. We didn't get our first Big East win and we are on track to get another losign Big East season. We might not win another game in 2008. There are no other 1-AA teams on the schedule. The one we just squeaked by gave us fits!
The news gets even worse...
Today, I looked in the newspapers and learned that things are worse than I thought. The APP and the USA Today Polls listed 25 top teams and another few honorable mentions receiving votes. Syracuse was not there - no surprise.
Here's the surprise, though. Only Connecticut is there and in the 23rd or 24th spot. No other Big East teams were to be found anywhere in the rankings. This makes SU seem even worse than they are. Being the weakest team in a weak conference is no way to run a football program.
Ahhh...but Connecticut IS in the Top 25. They are 5-0. They beat Louisville...they Beat Baylor...they only started playing big time college football a few years ago! They also have a former SU player as their coach. We need this guy. When are we going to hear the outcry to get him? Is no one noticing the job he is doing at Connecticut?
This guy is piling up wins, year after year, and no one from SU is screaming - COME HOME AND COACH YOUR ALMA MATER!!!!
USF is a Big East school that pounds us every year.

Fading away? YOU CAN'T FADE WHEN YOU WEREN'T THERE TO BEGIN WITH!!!!! The fading occurred years ago in the Pasqualoni regime.....Crouthamel let Pasqualoni lose for far too long and now Gross is doing the same?!!!!!! This program is so far gone at this point, it will take at least 10+ years to come back, with GOOD leadership - which starts with a new AD......How much is Robinson and Gross getting paid for losing game-by-game, year-by-year??!!!!WHY IS CONSISTENT FAILURE ACCEPTED????!!!!!! I attended SU from 1988 - 92 and we celebrated a solid successful program with great athletes and coaching & bowl games every year. Programs this bad do not and will not attract great high school athletes for a LONG time. I never thought I would witness such misery and it is allowed to go on and on and on and on..........I truly believe that Robinson knows he is a bad coach, but smart enough to keep collecting a paycheck as long as someone will let him. ENOUGH!!!! ROBINSON AND GROSS BOTH NEED TO BE GONE TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
