Edsall is acting with total class. He is still under contract and his season continues on with bowl eligibility. He has the emotions of his players, alumni, fans and recruits to consider. Let's not forget his reputation as a standup guy. I am sure he also wants to see Robinson leave the sidelines, before he orders his Orange coaching cap.
Read Edsall's words very carefully and notice how he is tying his loyal allegiance to the remainder of Connecticut's Big East season and not so much to the school's football program, beyond 2008.
This doesn't mean that Gross shouldn't press on seeking other strong candidates for the job. He recognizes that if it sounds too much like it's a done deal with Edsall and things don't work out as hoped for, SU football has the most to lose. Time is of the essence. But, Connecticut will be putting the pigskins away shortly before New Years Day. It can wait until then - but not much longer than that.
