FB | Uneasy state of program led prized recruit Scott to de-commit

Abstract:
Darrick Scott would sit at home reading college football recruiting Web sites with disgust.

Every time he logged on to Scout.com or Rivals.com and checked the list of Syracuse commitments for the Class of 2009, the only name he would see was his own. The lone soul with a verbal promise to play for the Orange....

This is why I said let's have thanksgiving early and put a fork in this turkey. Robinson is now the problem. The AD shoould have corrected his error sooner. Maybe they both should go. The important goal is to put SU football back to where it should be.

This story should come as no surprise. After this year's team goes 2-10 at best, including a win over Northeastern, GRob will be gone. GRob appears to be a nice guy, but as a football coach, he's awful. The only reason he was kept is that this year is the last season of his current (larcenous) contract, and SU didn't want to pay 2 coaches at once.
G.Rob may even be fired before the season ends. If they get blown out by Northwestern, which is highly possible, Robinson will have to accept that he's probably done at SU. If they lose to Northeastern, he will either resign or get canned the following week. Instead of rebuilding SU's program, he has demolished it. Even mediocre recruits laugh at SU. SU will not get another commit until G.Rob is fired and a new coach in place. Next time Dr. Gross may want to hire someone with more college football credentials than being a friend of Pete Carroll. If he doesn't, then Gross should be next, contract extension be damned. Gross brought all this on by firing Coach P. after Coach P. was promised another year season after the 2004 season. SU went to the Champs Sports Bowl and was destroyed by Ga. Tech. The firing caused Ray Rice to de-commit and to then commit to Rutgers. After that, it has been all downhill to the point where I don't even watch SU football anymore. As an alum who went to every home game during his four years on the Hill, went to road games, and went to the Sugar Bowl when SU went, the current situation is a complete disgrace and embarrassment. Thanks Dr. Gross. At least he hasn't ruined the basketball program yet. Oh yeah, they haven't made the NCAAs in 2 years, so maybe I'm wrong about that one.

Syracuse is going to be embarrassed by Northwestern, a weak Big-10 football school known more for its academics. The AD shoud try to get out of this ASAP....it will not be pretty. Maybe SU can play Jamesville-DeWitt High School instead. Search committee should be formed now for the next coach...and it will get worse...don't let your kids see the West Virginia game. Maybe we can still schedule Colgate like the old days..

A bad situation 3 years ago has only gotten worse. It's disappointing to see a once winning program go completely down the tubes. If Robinson can't get to .500, he's out though I'm concerned Gross will find an excuse to keep his ex-USC buddy around. They're going to have to invest in a BIG name someone to attract the kind of talent they need to turn it around.

This one goes out to everyone that wanted Coach P fired. All Coach P did was recruit GREAT talent and win games. His worst seasons when everyone started calling for his head were better than the seasons we've had under Robinson. All Coach P did in his last year on the job was finish in a 4-way tie for 1st in the Big East. Then they tell him his job was secure and stab him in the back mafia-style. That was the worst move. That lack of stability is leading to a lack of interest from the big time prospects. We are LUCKY to have so many class acts and good kids coming to school this year, but we should fear for the future if Robinson can't figure out a way for them to win. It's bad enough we lost Ray Rice to Rutgers when Coach P was fired (and David Walker removed as well) but now we are looking at Rutgers out-recruiting us? Rutgers used to be a sure W every season and now they are getting 4-star talent that should be on our squad.
Think of all the NFL talent that Coach P recruited and won games with in his career. If we don't get a bowl game this year then Robinson MUST GO. You can't win 4 or 5 games and then say "well, he improved"... bowl eligible or unemployment... that's it!

The Big East should replace Cuse football w/ ECU or Memphis from C-USA.

Just goes to show that GRob is the millstone around SU football's neck. He is scaring away the talent, to say nothing of a pathetic record and poor attendance. Boot this fool to the curb, cut the losses and get on with things!

Its funny that everyone is now realizing what I was saying when he came in. He cost the school 2.5 million dollars thus far. And thats just his salary for the years he's been here. Syracuse cant use that money for scholarships or other teams that CAN actually perform??? This is stupidity. The dude sucks he looks like he sucks, he is undeserving of that type of money and he is a dissapointment. One thing I didnt call for was for Gross to get out of there but now i am on that bandwaggon. He is a toolshed too.
