Mayfest is not a tradition as some people seem to believe. Here's a little history lesson. This will be the sixth year of SU Showcase. It was originally called Mayfest because it actually happened in May after classes had ended. It was moved back to April in hopes of increasing student particiaption in the academic events of the day. There was never any intention of creating a party day, and I fully support the administration's decision to reinstate classes. You cannot take an event that only has a 4 year history and call it a tradition, especially when it was never the intended purpose of the day, and does not have any support from the University. If the students want something akin to Dolphy Day at LeMoyne, work with SA to create that as a seperate event. Perhaps combine with Senior Celebration, which is a Univeristy boozefest disguised as tradition. Having a skip day in conjunction with SU Showcase will never gain support for the administration because it will continue to steal the spotlight from SU Showcase and it's purpose of academic celebration. Plus if you push it back a week chances are the weather will be a lot nicer.
