Facebook wrong site for advocacy

I believe in the awesome potential of the media, but real world change requires more work than writing an article for the university newspaper. It certainly requires a hell of a lot more effort than 434 words.
No one joins that Facebook group and thinks to him or herself, "Boy, I sure am going to sleep better tonight knowing that my membership contributed a tenth of a cent to Darfur!" It's not by any means detrimental to charitable causes so there's no point to criticizing the practice. If anything, whichever organization this guy is donating to is getting over 400 bucks more than if he hadn't created the group to begin with. Sounds like a good deal to me.

I don't know what the author makes of my deal, but my intentions are genuine. I am working with a web start-up and have not yet raised any substantial seed capital to afford a real marketing budget. I was about to start spending some money on Google Adwords but figured that a facebook group was a better idea and instead of paying Google I would for every 10 people joining donate $1 to WWF (a serious organisation that I am sure would do good with my money). $1 for every 10 joins is a lot better than $1 for everty 1000 joins, don't you think.
