Commencement speaker choice a disgrace
As commencement speakers go, Syracuse University's track record isn't bad. Ted Koppel is the host of a major news program. Rudy Giuliani was the mayor of New York City during its worst crisis in modern history. Bill Clinton was president of the United States for eight years.
New Yorker fondly remembered
By Brian Oppenheim
My uncle, Robert Martin, was the kind of guy it would be hard not to like - he was the quintessential New Yorker. He grew up in Brooklyn, the one brother in a family of four sisters. He attended NYU and Harvard, but didn't pursue a career involved with his academic interest.
Letter: Rashad an unacceptable speaker
When I think about the great orators of the past half-century, three names come to mind: William Jefferson Clinton, Rudolph Giuliani and of course, Phylicia Rashad. With all due respect to the selection committee (even though in my mind they deserve none), the selection of Rashad as the 2004 commencement speaker is an absolute farce and a disgrace.
