Gerry sinks Hoyas at buzzer to save SU
By Chico Harlan
WASHINGTON, D.C. - First, what most have already forgotten: The tedium. "It was horrible, man," Syracuse freshman Louie McCroskey said. "It was tough watching that game." And it should have been a tough defeat to overcome. Beckoning what seemed like an apocalyptic loss for its NCAA Tournament hopes, the Syracuse men's basketball team, with an excruciating mix of missed shots and bonehead turnovers, played as poorly as it has done all season.
Never should have been that close
By Michael Becker
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Syracuse proved two points Saturday afternoon. First, the Orangemen showed they can come from behind, as they did in their buzzer-beater win over Georgetown. They'll try to feed off that in their last four games. More importantly though, they indicated their mediocrity in the Big East.
Syracuse thriving in close games

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Veteran observers of the Syracuse-Georgetown rivalry say they always expect a close game, regardless of any talent discrepancies. Fans of this year's Syracuse team, however, might have doubted such a suggestion before Saturday's game with the Hoyas.
After struggling through suspensions, Villanova has steadied
By Michael Becker
It didn't involve a hotel or a stripper, but the Villanova men's basketball team was involved in a scandal of its own. Unlike the circumstances at St. John's, Villanova's scandal involved making unauthorized telephone calls. Last season following an investigation into the Villanova basketball team, 12 players were suspended for making telephone calls using an unauthorized access code.
Ray's jumper earns him respect
By Rob Anthes
Allan Ray dribbles left, dribbles right, pulls up and swishes another jump shot. He'll shoot 300 of them before the day's over, and he'll shoot them with no one around. It's a familiar scene, one that plays out before and after every Villanova men's basketball practice.
Orangemen top Terps in final spring tune-up
By Scott Lieber
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - In the span of 40 seconds, Kevin Daugherty perfectly illustrated how the Syracuse men's lacrosse team plays offense. With 3:45 left in the first half, Daugherty subbed in. Then the senior attacker got a pass, broke left, fired and scored, putting SU up, 5-2.
Hernandez headlines for SU at Big East Championship
By Mike Janela
Syracuse track and field head coach Andrew Roberts said before this weekend's Big East Championship that he didn't expect his team to compete for first place. He was right. After competition ended Sunday, the Orangemen finished 11th out of 12 teams, 137 points behind men's champion Connecticut.
Staff Reports
Last week, the Syracuse softball team beat its highest-rated opponent ever, saving itself from going winless over the weekend. One week later, Syracuse has won its first tournament of the season, too. Syracuse won the Mardi Gras Mambo, beating McNeese State, 3-2, in the final game.
