George DeLeone took the fall last year despite his machinelike work ethic

The first thing George DeLeone does every morning, when he wakes before the rest of the world, is ask himself a question: What can I do today to win more football games? Daily 7 a.m. wake-up calls? No problem. That's what his job calls for. Coaching football, mind you, requires passion, a passion that separates winners and losers.
Draft positions not influenced by recent struggles

They are numbers that will make any Syracuse senior sit a little uneasy as he watches the NFL Draft this weekend. A total offense that ranked 70th out of 117 Division I-A schools. A passing offense that ranked 91st. A defense that ranked 59th in points allowed.

It's that time of year again. Syracuse's graduating football seniors will huddle around their televisions for this weekend's NFL Draft to see if they will be selected. Among SU's top prospects are wide receiver Johnnie Morant, offensive tackle Kevin Sampson and linebacker Rich Scanlon.
Golden Danes lucky to schedule Syracuse after embarrassing loss

Syracuse lacrosse coach John Desko calls it luck. After Hofstra declined to play Syracuse this year, the Orangemen needed a team to add to their schedule. Then, Albany head coach Scott Marr called and offered to play. Of course, Marr had no way of knowing that Syracuse would be coming off an embarrassing loss to Rutgers and has a strong itch to get back on the field and beat up on some weaker opponents.
Syracuse looking to win 4th straight title

The Syracuse rowing team will defend the Big East title this Sunday when it travels to Worcester, Mass. for the Big East Challenge. The Orangewomen have won the title in each of the last three years. Interim head coach Craig Milburn said that despite being the defending champions, the Orangewomen will not change their approach to the race.
Spring scrimmage open to public

The end of spring football is finally drawing near for Syracuse. Following Syracuse's final practice this afternoon, the Orangemen will participate in the annual Spring Game Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. The end-of-spring scrimmage will give fans a glimpse of the work the team has done over the past month.
SU ditches shorts, sticks with tradition

At the beginning of the school year, while the weather is still hot, girls in high school are often faced with the administrators' "above-the-kneecap rule." In other words, if a female's shorts are above her kneecap, put on something else. It's assumed college girls don't have to worry about this rule.
