Valesky claims victory over Hoffmann in state Senate race

Nearly two weeks after the polls closed, David Valesky finally declared victory over Republican incumbent Sen. Nancy Larraine Hoffmann in the race for the 49th state Senate district seat Monday. The Democrat Valesky led Hoffmann by about 1,060 votes on election night, but saw his lead dwindle to about 440 in the weeks since, as paper and absentee ballots from Madison, Oneida and Cayuga counties were counted.
MySlice set up for spring registration

With so many students using the new online registration program MySlice for the first time this week, some problems have arisen with the system. Overall, however, things have gone pretty smoothly, according to Computing and Media Services officials and students.
Author offers new take on hip-hop

Gwendolyn Pough is new to Syracuse University, but she is already well known for her feminism and hip-hop activism. Pough, a professor in the writing program, wrote a new book, "Check It While I Wreck It: Black Womanhood, Hip-Hop Culture and the Public Sphere," which has already received coverage and positive reviews in several magazines, including Vibe and Africana.
