Live and learn: Learning communities fail to live up to student expectations

In an effort to avoid the boisterous life of a typical college student, Bryan Zarpentine moved into a quiet lifestyle learning community his freshman year. Instead of fostering a vigilant study regiment, however, the convenient living locale of Brewster Hall allowed him to focus on only one thing: the roar of passers-by on Interstate 81.

Professor works on Bush's new budget plan

A Syracuse University professor, on leave from teaching since 2001, is now busy overseeing the analysis of President George W. Bush's proposed $2.57 trillion national budget, which was presented to Congress last week. As director of the Congressional Budget Office since 2003, SU economics professor Douglas Holtz-Eakin manages the research of 230 CBO employees, who are now dissecting the proposed fiscal 2006 budget for a report in March of the plan's fiscal implications.

More changes to come after bidding season

This spring's reorganized recruitment and bid seasons have started a new, longer process of reform to the fraternity system. "It was rather dramatic and rather controversial, but it was a long time coming as well," said Joshua McIntosh, senior associate director for the Office of Greek Life and Experiential Learning.

Lawrinson garage cars broken into, burglarized

Three Syracuse University students' vehicles in Lawrinson garage had items taken from them by unknown individuals since Feb. 10, according to Public Safety reports. One student's vehicle was broken into and an in-dash CD player and cell phone accessories were stolen between Feb.
