Student apologizes for tirade

By Pete Freedman

At 5:27 in the morning on Sunday, Feb. 13, Jarell Corley was just finishing up his Saturday night. The freshman in The College of Arts and Sciences had been up late drinking, but he'd also been doing some serious thinking - about friendships, about women and, perhaps most importantly, about class.

America hinders peace

By Jean Stevens

As moviegoers filed into the special screening of the film "Hotel Rwanda" Sunday afternoon at Westcott Cinema, they knew that the $6.50 they paid for their tickets would go toward the refugees of the current atrocities in the Darfur region of Sudan. It was the most they could do, since their government can't get its act together.

Letter to the Editor: Coverage of SA 'disappointing'

As an active member of the Student Association, I feel that Thursday's D.O. editorial about the institution absolutely necessitates a rebuttal. "The students also have a right to know what is going on in SA ...", reported Thursday's D.O. This notion is absolutely correct.

Letter to the Editor: Commencement speaker disaster

What is our horribly liberal school coming to? Eileen Collins, Rudy Giuliani, Bill Clinton - Syracuse University's commencement speakers in 2001, 2002 and 2003. These three peoples' lives have immeasurably important experience to serve as drawing boards for delivering a charging message to a graduating class.

Letter to the Editor: Cheers to Goodall

This letter is in response to the "Cheers and Jeers" section in which Jane Goodall's appearance as commencement speaker was labeled negatively. My first reaction when hearing that Jane Goodall would be this year's commencement speaker was one of relief. I was quite surprised by the remark in The Daily Orange, criticizing the selection because she "has no knowledge of the plight of college students.

Letter to the Editor: Jeers to the jeerer

Friday's anonymous jeerer was clearly an indiscriminately obnoxious moron. Jeering Jane Goodall - an important figure in the history of studying animal behavior and human evolution, and a role model for all female graduates - demonstrates a rarely seen level of incompetence.

Letter to the Editor: Learning Communities article biased

I am writing in response to Erin Hendricks' article on the Learning Communities. I was completely taken aback by the article she wrote, which was disingenuous and written with an agenda to spin the Learning Communities in a bad light. I was working at the front desk for the Learning Communities/Orientation Office when Ms.

Letter to the Editor: Colgate belittled in column

Adam Kilgore's article is dead on, except for one point. As a Colgate alumnus living in the area, I would love to see Syracuse bring NCAA hockey to life. College hockey is a wonderful sport and local rivalries only make it better. The Colgate/Cornell games always have special meaning each year and I would love to add Syracuse to that mix.
