Student designers to showcase talent on Parents Weekend

Fashion design students at Syracuse University are bringing the community something new - a first-time fall fashion show on Parents Weekend. In an effort to promote fashion and bring more attention to the department, FADS, the student organization from the fashion design department in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, is presenting Fashion for Franklin at 8 p.

Tournament gives students 1,000 reasons to drink

As if students need a reason to play a few rounds of beer pong, the Central New York Beer Pong League is now offering a $1,000 prize for the winner of a tournament tonight. Open registration for anyone over 21 will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Clinton Street Pub.

Businesses prepare for homecoming of alumni

Bill Nester is already prepared for Homecoming weekend. The co-owner of Manny's Quality Apparel ordered extra hoodies, hats, basic orange t-shirts and children's and women's clothing to keep his customers satisfied throughout the event. "Homecoming is a very important weekend for us," Nester said.

Alumna author to open local lecture series

Joyce Carol Oates set one of her novels in a fictitious college campus based on a place she knows well: Syracuse University. Oates attended Syracuse University as an undergraduate and graduated as valedictorian of the Class of 1960. The novel, "I'll Take You There" explores the crucial elements of a young girl's life as a college student, lover and daughter.

The world changed when President George W. Bush was killed on Oct. 19, 2007. That is the premise for the upcoming film, "Death of a President." The movie, which won the international critics' prize on Sept. 10 at the Toronto Film Festival, has been making headlines as both an "irresponsible" and "gripping" movie.
