The backdrop - Tiananmen Square, soon to be the site of a bloody confrontation between student protestors and the communist Chinese government.
College of Visual and Performing Arts | Students to meet with dean candidates

Students in the College of Visual and Performing Arts have a chance today to discuss the four candidates nominated for the school's deanship. There will be an open forum for all VPA students in Gifford Auditorium from 4 to 6 p.m., as an opportunity to recommend and direct questions toward the candidates.

Just moments into Thursday morning's lecture, Bryan Tramont told students they don't own their cell phones. The FCC does. Tramont, former Federal Communications Commission chief of staff, gave a presentation Thursday titled, "First Semester Curriculum and Your Cell Phone - They Have More In Common Than You Think," and addressed many of the current issues facing the communications industry and consumers.

Several new billboards sprung up around the city of Syracuse beginning last spring. But instead of displaying the usual advertisements, they displayed artwork created by SU students. Last year's Top in Art Photography: Non-Traditional Modes class members got the chance to put their artwork out in the community by designing their own billboards.
