Expansion of DPS investigations team aids in robbery arrests on South Campus

When Chief Anthony Callisto first arrived at the Department of Public Safety, he polled the faculty and administrators to try to decide what area needed the most improvement. "I started to interview and talk with university administrators that were customer agencies like Judicial Affairs, Residence Life, the dean of students and asked them the top three things DPS needed to improve," Callisto said.
Online auction offers new items, increases revenue

Items ranging from a Barry Bonds autographed bat, a picture signed by Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez and several pieces of autographed memorabilia from Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim and former basketball player Carmelo Anthony, will be made available in the new online portion of the Charity Sports Auction.
President unveils plan for annual scholarship

Marlene Goldenberg unveiled a plan to create a new merit-based scholarship for student leaders at Monday night's Student Association meeting. The new scholarship would be funded by $10,000 from leftover funds from the student activity fee. Some assembly members expressed doubts about creating a scholarship that would essentially be paid for by the students.

Chancellor Nancy Cantor said Scholarship in Action is simple. "It is quite literally, 'Will we make a difference, or won't we?'" Cantor spoke briefly at a dinner and awards ceremony Monday night where more than 45 students, student groups, residence halls, academic classes and student organizations were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments outside of Syracuse University.

Small, an alumna of the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University, sits on the board of trustees and the library planning committee at Manlius Pebble Hill School.

Jeff Jacoby will discuss media's coverage of the Middle East

Jeff Jacoby thinks the media doesn't know how to cover the Middle East, and as a journalist, he would know. Jacoby, a long-time columnist for The Boston Globe, will be speaking today in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium in Newhouse III at 7 p.m. His speech, titled "Why the Media Gets the Middle East Wrong," will be followed by a discussion.

In 2005, John Campbell, a senior political science major at the Texas Christian University, created the first liquid computer after a year of experimentation, 10 to 15 old computers and more than $500. It started out as an arcade machine-sized freezer, filled to the rim with liquids, ice and techno-pieces.
