Bird Library open 24 hours on weekdays

Denny's. 7-Eleven. Wal-Mart. And now E.S. Bird Library. The first three floors of Bird Library will be open 24 hours a day starting this semester between Sundays at 10 a.m. and Fridays at 10 p.m. "This was a collective decision by the university," said Pamela McLaughlin, director of communications and external relations for the library.

Students meet prominent Democrats

Syracuse University student Michelle McClafferty dined with New York Sen. Hillary Clinton Tuesday morning. Earlier in the week, SU student Kevin Eggleston traded campaign buttons with members of the media at Six Flags in Denver. Both Eggleston and McClafferty are spending the first week of classes at the Democratic National Convention, getting a different kind of education.

Daily Orange ceases Friday print edition, moves to Web

The Daily Orange will no longer publish a print edition of its newspaper on Fridays because of a series of financial setbacks that make printing and distributing a paper on the week's slowest day impractical. In the absence of a hard copy of the day's news, there will be a complete edition's worth of content published on the paper's Web site, dailyorange.

200,000 records donated to SU

But the addition of more creative hallmarks is pushing SU toward becoming synonymous with arts and culture studies. Frat hosts world record attempt

Electronic beeps and the sound of rattling games pieces filled the Schine Student Center Wednesday morning as students and organizers huddled over Monopoly game boards to be part of a world record event. These students joined five other U.S. universities and global groups totaling 3,000 internationally, hoping to be the first to set a Guinness World Record for the most people playing Monopoly at one time.

Getting the axe

Marisa Murdock can't take the underwater photography course she signed up for this semester - and it's because she's a student at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry. SUNY-ESF announced Aug. 20 that state budget cuts of up to 10 percent forced the college to restrict its students from taking some elective courses through Syracuse University.
