Obama, 47, won in an Electoral College landslide with 349 electoral votes and 52 percent of the popular vote, compared to Sen.

Junior dies at study abroad center in Madrid

Gleidy Espinal, a junior general studies in management major, died this morning at Syracuse University's abroad center in Madrid, a Syracuse spokesman confirmed Wednesday. Espinal's cause and time of death have not yet been determined, said Kevin Morrow, the university's spokesman.

"My roommate woke me up at 5 in the morning to go vote," she said, "and there was actually a line at Drumlins. I couldn't believe it." For the Democrats to gain the coveted 60-member, "filibuster-proof" majority in the United States Senate, they were going to need to defeat incumbents of the Republican Party in traditionally red states. Republican candidate Dale Sweetland lost the 25th U.S. Congressional District race to Democrat Dan Maffei. "I just called Dan Maffei and congratulated him on a win tonight," Sweetland announced to supporters at the Double Tree Hotel in East Syracuse soon after his defeat Tuesday night.
