Seivert elected next Student Association president

Larry Seivert was elected Student Association president early Friday morning in what election officials called the highest voter turnout in SA's 53-year history. Alec Sim, chair of the board of elections and membership, said 3,302 students voted - 23.6 percent of Syracuse University and State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry full-time undergraduates.
Students to join in Proposition 8 protest outside city hall

An estimated 300 members of the Syracuse community are expected to protest Proposition 8, a decision reached 3,000 miles away. Groups of people will surround Syracuse City Hall this Saturday, protesting the passing of Proposition 8. The proposition could potentially overturn approximately 18,000 same-sex marriages in California, and prohibits any further same-sex marriages.
Expert panel addresses ethical dilemmas of free press

Judith Kaye got right to the point of Thursday night's "Sex, Money and the Press" panel before it even started. Looking out into the audience, she pointed to the students and asked, "What better groups to include in our discussion than a generation that will very soon fall likely to the error of today's journalists?" Kaye, chief judge of New York State, served as the opening speaker for a panel of judges, lawyers and journalists at Thursday's event.
