TIME TO DANCE: Syracuse returns to NCAA Tournament as No. 3 seed, will play Stephen F. Austin Friday

The selection committee rewarded Syracuse with a three seed in the South region, its highest seed since 2003, when SU won its only national championship also as a three seed. It will face 14th-seeded Stephen F. Austin Friday in Miami. The time is to be announced.

NEW YORK - Jim Boeheim finally threw in the towel. The walk-ons were coming into the game with 1:19 remaining and Syracuse trailing by 11 in the championship game of the Big East tournament to top-seeded Louisville. Jonny Flynn, who played 181 of a possible 195 minutes in four days, was one of the players taken out.

NEW YORK - The players flooded off the Syracuse bench, racing toward the center of Madison Square Garden. Eric Devendorf jumped up onto the table and put his arms in the air, shouting. Devendorf, the SU shooting guard, had just sunk a desperation 3-pointer at the end of regulation that seemed to leave his hand just as the horn sounded.

NEW YORK - Devendorf scored 16 points after a series of double technical fouls, and keyed a 21-8 Syracuse run that sent the No. 18 Orange (24-8) to an 89-74 over Seton Hall (16-15) in the second round of the Big East tournament here at Madison Square Garden in front of 19,375. He got it with 16 minutes left in the second half, when he jumped into a tussle of players following a hard foul on Syracuse forward Kristof Ongenaet.

Syracuse basketball rides 4-game win streak into Big East tournament

As a result of Syracuse's 83-79 win over the Golden Eagles, the No. 18 Orange secured the sixth seed in the Big East Tournament meaning Flynn will have to wait until Wednesday to bring that swagger back to Madison Square Garden. Syracuse will play Seton Hall, who beat South Florida Tuesday night in the first round, at 9 p.m. Wednesday.
