SU to watch for swine flu symptoms

A strain of swine flu has killed 149 people in Mexico and infected 42 people in the United States as of Monday nigh, prompting an e-mail from Syracuse University Health Services to the campus community. Onondaga County and Health Services have reported no cases of the swine flu in the area, though they said they are monitoring the situation thoroughly.
Fire at South Campus apartment contained late Friday night, cause still unknown

A fire broke out late Friday night on the second floor of 181 No. 2 Farm Acre Road at approximately 11:50 p.m. No one was injured, said Lt. Edward Weber of the Department of Public Safety. The fire occurred in an upstairs bedroom and was contained within five minutes, Weber said.
DPS plans to install surveillance cameras

The Department of Public Safety is working to finalize a deal to bring a campus-wide security camera system to Syracuse University. Michael Kearns, manager of technology and security services for DPS, said DPS met with a company, which he declined to name, on April 22 to discuss where the cameras will be installed and where the video footage will be stored.

Student Association elects Board of Trustees liasons for fall semester

Repetition was the theme at Monday night's Student Association meeting. It took three rounds of voting for SA to decide on one of the Syracuse University Board of Trustees' liaisons for next semester. President Larry Seivert was up for the position, but the assembly chose two other representatives.
Sports law program passed after student efforts

Students in the College of Law will have the option of choosing an entertainment and sports law certificate when they return to campus next semester. The first law program drafted by a student organization was approved by a law college faculty vote April 17.
