MIKE WILLIAMS QUITS FOOTBALL TEAM

Star wide receiver Mike Williams has quit the Syracuse football program, head coach Doug Marrone announced Monday afternoon. Speaking at his weekly press conference with local media, Marrone said Williams approached him earlier in the day and informed him of his decision.

A car driven by Syracuse football player Andrew Tiller was rear ended early Sunday morning near Lenox, N.Y., New York State Trooper Jack Keller said Tuesday afternoon. Police do not suspect alcohol was involved in the accident, which occurred at 5:30 a.m. Two other SU players were in the car with Tiller, as well as former wide receiver Mike Williams, who quit the team Monday.
Teary-eyed Marrone backs Paulus as quarterback

Doug Marrone became emotional Monday in a passionate defense of quarterback Greg Paulus, who heard boos from the Carrier Dome crowd throughout the second half of Syracuse's 28-7 loss to Cincinnati Saturday. Marrone began his weekly press conference, notes in hand, by delivering a nearly three-minute partially-prepared oration addressing what happened to his starting quarterback last weekend.
Syracuse adds committ for 2011 basketball class

Michael Carter-Williams, the No. 16 ranked point guard for the Class of 2011 on Scout.com, verbally committed to Syracuse Monday, his high school coach Mike Hart confirmed to The Daily Orange. The Post-Standard originally reported Carter-Williams' commitment early Monday morning.

As the final seconds ticked away on the scoreboard Sunday, the Syracuse men's soccer team knew its season was coming to an end. For the seniors, their career at SU was drawing to a close. With seven seniors graduating and leaving the team after this season, the task of rebuilding after a 3-15 season falls on the shoulders of the squad's younger players.

Donye McCleskey's last win as a member of the Indiana State football team came when he was a freshman, a time he was admittedly more worried about making his own mark and fighting for playing time, rather than winning. Now, McCleskey is a senior starting cornerback for the Sycamores, a member of the Missouri Valley Conference.
