In a historic victory, Democrat Stephanie Miner will be the 53rd mayor of Syracuse. "I have learned firsthand that anything worth doing you can't do alone," Miner told her crowd of supporters Tuesday night while celebrating her win at the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel.

Kimatian bows out, thanks supporters

As election results came in Tuesday, most of the crowd at Steve Kimatian's headquarters stayed glued to the TV. But as the numbers dipped, one young woman had to excuse herself from the crowded room. Toma Grigoryan, a campaign volunteer and May graduate of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, had been working for mayoral candidate Kimatian since the primaries.

Jennings: 'I look at what we've accomplished'

Otis Jennings sat in his small corner office Tuesday night at his campaign headquarters, smiling from ear to ear. "I feel fantastic," he said. "I'm at peace. I've worked diligently, and we've run a very honorable campaign." Jennings, the Conservative Party mayoral candidate, remained optimistic throughout election night as results rolled in.

Student Veterans Club offers peer networking, support

A new student group that works to provide returning soldiers with resources and moral support when making the transition from the battlefield to the classroom was officially recognized last week at Syracuse University. The new club is the first veterans club to be established on campus.

SU to implement newly released Windows 7 program in spring

Microsoft's release of Windows Vista two years ago disappointed users. But with its latest operating system, Windows 7, Microsoft has fixed the problems associated with its older system, Syracuse University users said. SU plans to begin installing Windows 7 on computers in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs in May 2010, said Stanley Ziemba, the chair of an SU committee studying Windows 7.

Democrat wins Fifth District common council seat

Nader Maroun became the new District 5 common councilor Tuesday night in a landslide victory. In Tuesday's general election, Maroun, 62, the Democratic and Working Families Party candidate, faced Republican, Independent and Conservative Party nominee Tristan Daedalus, 21.
