Media outlets lined up outside the Carmelo K. Anthony Center Friday, a day after molestation allegations were made against Syracuse basketball associate head coach Bernie Fine.
ESPN, which broke the story late Thursday night, was in the parking lot outside the basketball facility, with a satellite dish on top of its news van. A camera was set up, and ESPN reporter Mark Schwarz did a report at one point late in the morning time. Afterward, he immediately retreated back to the news van.
When The Daily Orange approached the ESPN van for to see if Schwarz was available for an interview, a person associated with the company said he could do an interview because of company policy.
Other media outlets that arrived by the afternoon included Fox News, NBC 3, New 10 Now and CNYCentral.
Several cameras were also set up in the parking lot.
Bystanders walking by to either go inside the Melo Center, or to one of the Centro bus stops gave the media setups a glance.
Inside the Melo Center, people associated with the SU basketball program covered up practice from the media with blue and orange curtains around 2 p.m.
Most players entered the Melo Center through the back door. The only player to enter through the front door was junior forward Matt Lyde-Cajuste.
Media members lingered in the hallways of the Melo Center. A couple of photographers snapped pictures of the practice court before players showed up.
