Meaghan Tyrrell earned both the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association and the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week honors after Syracuse’s win over then-No. 4 Northwestern last Saturday. The fifth-year attack’s six assists were a career high, totaling eight points in Syracuse’s 16-15 win over Northwestern.

In the closing minutes of a tie game against Northwestern, Meaghan assisted on two-straight goals to Megan Carney, which Northwestern countered, and then to Emma Tyrrell to take the lead.

Syracuse and Northwestern were tied at 14 with two-and-a-half minutes remaining. Meaghan tried to drive right on her defender, but spun backward after failing to find an open lane. But Emma was open on the right side of the 8-meter arc. She caught her sister’s pass in stride and looped inside to dodge and fire before defenders on both sides could converge. Syracuse went up 15-14 with 2:24 remaining.

Meaghan, who assisted Carney and her sister twice against NU on Saturday afternoon, bounced in the dagger, attacking the crease from the right side with 1:10 remaining.

Last year, Meaghan was a Tewaaraton Award finalist and was one goal shy (78) of Syracuse’s single-season record. She also scored 111 points, ranking sixth in the nation and becoming just the third player in school history to do so in a single season.

Now No. 4 in the nation, the Orange are preparing for another top-five matchup against No. 2 Maryland on Friday in the JMA Wireless Dome.
